Program Introduction

What sparks of wisdom emerge when brain science meets Tianfu civilization? How many unsolved mysteries are hidden in the human brain? How can we read brain signals as if decoding a secret code?

Designed for overseas youth with a passion for life sciences, this course adopts an innovative dual-track model of “scientific decoding + cultural exploration.” It takes students on an adventure across modern laboratories and ancient Shu civilization. During this “journey through the brain,” participants will become “brain science detectives,” exploring both science and culture.

Over 14 days of in-depth study, students will learn 10 core concepts and fundamental theories in brain science, strengthen 3 experimental design skills, experience 4 traditional cultural techniques, and take part in more than 10 immersive field visits related to technology and culture. Students will also learn about the “China Brain Project” and the China-Cuba Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Neurotechnology and Brain-Machine Interaction.

This is not only an introductory course in scientific exploration, but also a meaningful dialogue with Chinese civilization. Together, students will discover the scientific genes and cultural codes carried through thousands of years of Chinese heritage.

Host Universities

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Founded in 1956 through the merger of telecommunications-related disciplines from three leading engineering universities, UESTC was listed as a national key university by the CPC Central Committee in 1960. It became one of China’s first “Project 211” key universities in 1997, entered “Project 985” in 2001, and was selected as a Class A “Double First-Class” university in 2017.

With electronic information science and technology at its core, UESTC is a multidisciplinary research university with engineering as its main strength and coordinated development across science, engineering, management, humanities, medicine, and related fields.

The university has three campuses: Qingshuihe, Shahe, and Jiulidi, with a total building area of over 1.49 million square meters. It is home to a modern digital library with rich collections and well-equipped sports facilities.

In the fourth round of China’s national discipline evaluation, four UESTC disciplines were rated A-category. Electronic Science and Technology and Information and Communication Engineering were rated A+, Computer Science and Technology was rated A, and Optical Engineering was rated A-.

Nine disciplines, including Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Neuroscience and Behavior, Biology and Biochemistry, and Clinical Medicine, rank among the top 1% globally in ESI, with Engineering and Computer Science ranking among the top 0.1%.
